Happy Chinese New Year of the Horse !

We’re having a fantastic week celebrating Chinese New Year of the Horse! The school is awash with colour and decoration and in a nod to Japan and Cherry Blossom Season, we have installed a Cherry Blossom installation made up of cutout flowers made by 1st Year and TY Religion and SPHE students. Our installation is a clear reminder that Spring is on the way at last. We began the week with handing out Fortune Cookies to students during big break on Monday and announcing the start of our celebrations. On Thursday, we ran Chinese boardgames in the cafeteria at lunchtime where students enjoyed playing chequers, card games, Mah Jong and a special Year of the Horse picture puzzle created by Ms. Gallagher. Today, we will celebrate with games and entertainment, Jianzi, music and fortune telling at lunchtime. Wishing everyone a very Happy Chinese New Year of the Horse! More photos to follow of today’s celebrations to follow on Monday! Pupils and Teachers Clash on the Padel Courts!

Padel is currently one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and thanks to the two beautiful courts at Sutton LTC, St. Fintan’s High School is staying well ahead of the curve. Our 6th year students and teachers recently faced off in a highly competitive, yet friendly, padel match at Sutton LTC. A fantastic afternoon was had by all participants!  Looking ahead, we are excited to turn this into an annual tradition by hosting a “Past versus Present” event at the club, where past pupils, current pupils and teachers will battle it out on the court. This historic fixture marks St. Fintan’s High School first ever official padel match. A special mention and a huge thank you goes to Ms.Garry for organising and coordinating this event.  We also extend our gratitude to Ms. Mullane, Mr. Cabello, Mr. O’Neill, and Ms. Mendizabal for participating and helping to organise the event on the day. We would also like to thank David Walls, Padel Chairperson at Sutton LTC, who kindly organised the court bookings.

Leinster Schools Boys Tennis Tournament

This season, St. Fintan’s High School made its mark on the Leinster Schools Boy’s Tennis Tournament, fielding three teams across Minor, Junior, and Senior level. Across the campaign, the school produced competitive performances full of intensity, resilience, and strong team spirit.  St. Fintan’s High School entered three teams in the Leinster Schools Boy’s’ Tennis Tournament this year, competing in Division 2 at Minor, Junior, and Senior level. The Senior team faced strong opposition in the group stages against CBC Monkstown, Gonzaga College, Oatlands College, and Temple Carraig Secondary School. Despite the added challenge of travelling to Greystones to play Temple Carraig during exam season, the team produced a number of impressive and clinical victories throughout the campaign. At Minor level, St. Fintan’s competed against Wesley College, Castleknock College, and Blackrock College. The team performed strongly in the group stages and were unfortunate to narrowly miss out on a semi final. The Junior team played against Presentation College Bray, Temple Carraig, and St. Andrew’s College. They achieved some excellent results but also narrowly missed out on the semi-finals, with player availability impacted by other school and extracurricular commitments. Across all three levels, the St. Fintan’s teams represented the school with excellent commitment, teamwork, and sportsmanship, contributing to a very successful season for school tennis. A special word of thanks is extended to Orna Morrissey of Sutton Lawn Tennis Club, who continues to play a key role each year in organising court allocation and supporting the programme. Her dedication is central to the ongoing success of the St. Fintan’s High School tennis programme. Senior Tennis Team Junior Tennis Team Minor Tennis Team
