Happy Chinese New Year of the Horse !

We’re having a fantastic week celebrating Chinese New Year of the Horse! The school is awash with colour and decoration and in a nod to Japan and Cherry Blossom Season, we have installed a Cherry Blossom installation made up of cutout flowers made by 1st Year and TY Religion and SPHE students. Our installation is a clear reminder that Spring is on the way at last. We began the week with handing out Fortune Cookies to students during big break on Monday and announcing the start of our celebrations. On Thursday, we ran Chinese boardgames in the cafeteria at lunchtime where students enjoyed playing chequers, card games, Mah Jong and a special Year of the Horse picture puzzle created by Ms. Gallagher. Today, we will celebrate with games and entertainment, Jianzi, music and fortune telling at lunchtime. Wishing everyone a very Happy Chinese New Year of the Horse! More photos to follow of today’s celebrations to follow on Monday! Half Term Update

It’s been an action packed albeit very wet start to the year here in St. Fintan’s. Our Transition Years enjoyed a very successful Ski Trip in Austria aswell as cultural trips to the city, cookery school, driving school, and workshops in forensics, first aid, hygiene and skincare, bodhrán playing and an excellent SOAR Workshop on mental health. We welcomed our French friends over to the school for the first part of the French Exchange. Our students will be making the return trip to France in April. Transition Years are also in back to back rehearsals for this year’s school musical ‘Oliver’ which will take place over three nights from the 13th of March! Sports as ever has been action packed with Senior Soccer action in the North Dublin Quarter Finals, Junior, Senior and TY Frisbee Cup, Junior Basketball v Malahide. Our Senior Rugby team fought valiantly against St. Michael’s with lots of support from fans who made the trip to Donnybrook on the day. Unfortunately, it was not our day but we’ll rise to fight another battle!! Full Sports Report to follow after mid-term. Our 6th Years and 3rd Years sat their Mock Exams and after alot of hard work and effort are looking foward to a break over the next week! We’re building up to celebrating the Chinese New Year with lots of events planned for the week of the 23rd-27th of February! Wishing all staff, students and their families a well deserved mid-term break with hopefully some sunshine on the horizon! Forensics Workshop Ski Trip Ski Trip

Well done to all involved – Head Boy, Kenan Lacovic and all of the prefects, Ms. Guinan and all of the Student Council, all the performing teachers and students and Ms. Fox for all of her hard work in rehearsing and staging. Getting Christmassy

With our Christmas exams behind us, it’s beginning to feel very Christmassy here in St. Fintan’s. Our student’s Union held their annual Bake Sale last Wednesday and sold out completely raising money for local charities at Christmas. Our 1st Years had a Christmas Jumper Day on Wednesday also. Today, our Enterprise students held their Christmas Market all afternoon in the cafeteria showcasing their business and product ideas to staff, students and parents! We wish them every success with their businesses throughout the rest of the year! Elsewhere, around the school there’s a definite air of festivity as we countdown to the holidays!
