Concert for Gaza a Triumphant End to the Term!

What a fabulous end to the term with our Concert for Gaza this afternoon! Rip Roaring performances from all the acts combined of students and teachers to raise funds for Gaza. Teachers and students clapped and danced in the aisles along to performances by ‘Abba’, ‘Fleetwood Mac’, ‘The Beatles’ and ‘Oasis’. What a joy and everything Christmas is all about! Well done to all involved – Head Boy, Kenan Lacovic and all of the prefects, Ms. Guinan and all of the Student Council, all the performing teachers and students and Ms. Fox for all of her hard work in rehearsing and staging. With our Christmas exams behind us, it’s beginning to feel very Christmassy here in St. Fintan’s. Our student’s Union held their annual Bake Sale last Wednesday and sold out completely raising money for local charities at Christmas. Our 1st Years had a Christmas Jumper Day on Wednesday also. Today, our Enterprise students held their Christmas Market all afternoon in the cafeteria showcasing their business and product ideas to staff, students and parents! We wish them every success with their businesses throughout the rest of the year! Elsewhere, around the school there’s a definite air of festivity as we countdown to the holidays!

September Update

We’ve had a busy start to the year already kicking off with our Open Night which took place on the 16th and showcased to prospective students and their parents the many academic, sporting and extra-curricular activities on offer in St. Fintan’s High School. The night itself was a colourful display of student’s achievements across the curriculum, sporting displays, science experiments, craft workshops and a speech and welcome from Principal, Ms. Kathy Mullen. Transition Years have had some wonderful sunny September days to experience sailing and getting to grips with their tacking and jibing while just enjoying being out on the water and experiencing the thrill of sailing! The TYs have also attended a Careers Expo to inspire and inform themselves on the variety of career options out there! Meanwhile, back at base, auditions for the annual TY Musical are complete and it’s full steam ahead now with rehearsing, dancing and designing a stage for the big nights next March. Good luck to all. Sports activities have well and truly kicked off with the Senior Basketball team playing against Portmarnock Community School , St. Paul’s, Malahide and St. Finians, two Senior Hurling matches played and a cross country running event which took place in Donabate. Here’s to a great active and productive October when we will celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Week starting on the 8th of the month with events planned throughout the school!
