Ultimate Frisbee
Teacher: Hugh O’Neill
St. Fintan’s High School entered its first Ultimate Frisbee team into the Dublin Finals as recently as 2014 and since then has grown from strength to strength in the school. There are currently over 200 students who train/play Frisbee in the school on a weekly basis and under the tutelage of Mr. O’ Neill Ultimate Frisbee has become one of the fastest growing sports in the school.
Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact & self-refereed team sport where players attempt to move the disc up the court by catching and throwing it to their teammates. When in possession of the disc players are not allowed to move with it and must pass the disc when already stopped. A goal is scored when a pass is successfully caught in the opponents end zone.
Despite only picking up the sport during their time in the school a large number of pupils have kept up the sport while at college and regularly return to the school for the annual end of year past vs. present game. A number of past pupils have also gone on to represent various Irish underage teams at U20 and U24 level at both the European Championships and World Games.
