French Exchange

Teachers: Joanna McCartney, Valérie Audet, Mélanie Schmutz, Eileen Brennan, Sadhbh Cassidy

Pre-covid students had the option to take part in a French exchange with Lycée de la Côtière in Lyon. French students would spend a week with Irish students in January and attend St. Fintan’s High School and St. Fintan’s students would travel to Lyon with two teachers in April or May. They would stay with French families and attend the Lycée. This is a unique opportunity to experience another culture and to improve one’s language skills. Students and teachers alike consider it a big highlight of the year.

This year, due to covid restrictions we have decided to organise a virtual exchange. The virtual exchange will include various projects such as the creation of documentaries on Dublin and Lyon, created by students and exchanged between both countries. Students will be matched with penpals and with all the benefits of modern technology can still potentially develop lasting friendships and greatly improve language skills. Students will have the opportunity to set up regular Google Meets, exchange messages and emails. This is a good and free alternative to private tuition with regards to developing oral competency. Collaboration and communication can continue on throughout Senior Cycle at the students’ own discretion.
